Nutrition
The
Seneca County Commission on Aging provides meals for senior citizens, regardless of
income, health or other factors. Employees and volunteers prepare the meals on a
daily basis under the supervision of kitchen staff certified in food safety and
sanitation.
 |
Menus are prepared by Commission
On Aging's nutrition staff and reviewed by a licensed
dietitian to ensure the highest nutritional
value. As the menus are prepared in house, client likes and
dislikes are incorporated into the
planning process, allowing the seniors to be served foods which they truly
enjoy. In addition to regular and Diet (low sugar) meals available
to all clients, the Nutrition Services For Fee program allows the
needs of clients requiring specialized
diets to be met. For only the cost of the meal ($3.00 regular,
$3.40 special) clients
can receive meals which meet their dietary requirements
including, Low Sodium / Fat / Cholesterol, 1200 cal, 1400 cal,
1600cal, 1800 cal, Renal and Vegetarian meals. |
Meals are served at four designated
sites throughout Seneca County. Eating
at these sites provides seniors with opportunities to socialize, and enjoy
recreational and educational activities.
Lunchtime activities include games, crafts and movies, as well as educational
speakers from Medicaid, social security, Consumer Council, Attorney General's office,
rehab services and other health organizations.
| Unfortunately, there are many seniors
unable to leave their homes due to factors such as health, physical condition, etc. The
Commission on Aging offers Meals on Wheels for homebound
seniors, delivering meals right to their homes. Due to Health Department
regulations, the Commission on Aging can only deliver hot meals to seniors living in
communities within a one mile radius
of Tiffin, Fostoria or Green Springs. Frozen meals can be delivered to those who
live outside the one mile radius. |
